They would even knock on doors disguised as beggars. As people could not know what fortune may truly be at their door, they learned to greet and treat strangers with respect and consideration.

The desperate beggar before them could even hold secret knowledge. He or she could be a god with a single grain of knowledge that could bring fortune through the simple opportunity to be caring and giving despite any apparent gravity of your own situation.
